First impressions are everything. If you’re in business and you are looking to make a connection with someone and potentially strike a deal with them, then that first impression is the most crucial event in your relationship. In the matter of a split second, someone makes a decision whether to trust you or not.
So how do you gain their trust?
The Business Look
Formal business attire is a must when meeting a client. Looking sloppy and unclean will make someone immediately think you are lazy and won’t “get the job done.” Find a nice suit and it doesn’t have to be anything expensive. Simply go to your nearest Men’s warehouse, JC Pennies, or even get one off Amazon because you can buy anything from Amazon. But realistically, get the right size so it’s fitted properly so you look sharp.
Always be clean shaven or have a well-manicured beard. Straggly, huge bushy beards that collect your leftovers aren’t for the business world. Straighten up, look sharp, walk tall, and be confident.
The Limousine Arrival
Showing up in a suit is great but where you’re going, where will that first impression take place? Are you taking the subway, walking down the street to the office building or are you driving up to the building yourself? Most likely, unless you’re in a big city, you’ll be driving.
What kind of car do you have? Is it fully functional and does it make any loud noises like its damaged and needs fixed? Have you washed it in the last week or the last month? Getting out of a dirty, beat up the car will NOT be a good impression. So what can you do?
Rent a car
You could rent a car for a few hours. Something nice like a BMW or Mercedes won’t set you back too far but first impressions (or after the meeting as you both leave) are crucial. Do you typically get lost and do you get nervous before a meeting? Maybe you shouldn’t be driving at all.
Don’t Get Lost
Finding the directions to an office can be more complicated than it sounds, especially if it’s across town where you’ve never been before. Between one-way streets, alleys, and parking, it can be quite a hassle and mentally tax on you as you’re trying to prepare yourself to potentially close a deal with tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
So how can you avoid all of that completely?
Hire a Chauffeur
How about hiring limousine driver or chauffeur you to the event? It depends on whom your meeting with but it never hurts to show up with and get out of the back seat. Limousines or car services show class and that you recognize YOUR time is valuable. Driving can be such a mundane thing and the boss surely isn’t the one running to get his laundry or getting paper from the store. The $$/hour he would be wasting spending his time on those tasks would be outrageous and the same is for driving.
Be prepared, get cleaned up, and look to for a professional car service that can get you to where you want to go while preparing yourself for the meeting of a lifetime.
